Motor Vehicles

Grand list assessment of $81,015,730 for this category was up $4,604,284 or .60 percent from the previous year.

“People are buying new cars and replacing old ones,” DerAsadourian said. “I expect that to continue for another year or two.”

Personal Property

The 2011 number came in at $40,671,380 a $1,728,760 or .44 percent increase from 2010.

“The expansion (of businesses) and addition of new businesses at the Shoppes has contributed to the 1.7 million increase in personal property,” DerAsadourian said.

Real Estate

This category was up .35 percent from $1,005,870,870 in 2010 to $1,009,404,980 last October.

“There’s still a demand for new homes in town,” DerAsadourian said, adding that most came in the Sweetheart Mountain and Griswold Farms areas.

The town will use this information as it delves into its budget process since 86 percent of Canton’s budget revenues currently comes from property taxes.

Tonight Chief Administrative Officer Robert Skinner will make a budget presentation to the Board of Selectmen during its 7 p.m. meeting at the Community Center.
