Canton Selectmen to Discuss Draft Plan of Conservation and Development

At 6 p.m. Wednesday night the Board of Selectmen will host a special meeting to discuss the draft 2014-2024 Plan of Conservation and Development.

The document is designed to give the town guidance in future decision making.

“This Plan is an important document which will be used to guide future conservation and development activity over the next decade and beyond”, Jonathan Thiesse, Chairman of the Plan of Conservation and Development Update Committee, stated in a past press release.

The update committee has organized the document into two parts — a “Strategic Plan” and an “Implementation Plan.”

At the last Board of Selectman meeting, member David Gilchrist Jr. praised the overall document and the way people with diverse goals have come together but he expressed some reservations about the concepts of "districts" in such a small town and the noting of several new "opportunity areas."

"In my opinion that is in opposition to the real rural character in town," he said.
