In July, users will have to complete intake process at Social Services.

Canton Senior and Social Services is now providing Intake Services to the Canton Food Bank, located at Trinity Episcopal Church on River Road. Beginning the first week in July, Food Bank users will be required to show an ID card indicating they have completed an Intake through the local town office.  ID Cards will not have names of Food Bank users, but rather will use a number system for identification purposes which will increase confidentiality and anonymity.

The application process is intended to help identify residents who may be eligible for or benefit from additional services or programs, while ensuring that the resources available to those in need are going to Canton families only. Canton’s Social Worker, Claire Cote, will be at the food bank Tuesday mornings during the month of June to complete the intake process with people who currently use the food bank so there is no interruption in their assistance.

New people can also meet with her by making an in-office appointment to complete the application process. The food bank is open Tuesdays from 9AM-11:30 a.m. and the only requirement for using the food bank is that a person is a Canton resident.  The following items and information is needed when to apply:

1. Social Security numbers and ages for each person in the household who will be served by the food bank.
2. Current proof of Canton residency documented by one of the following: lease, mortgage statement, or letter from landlord. A current utility bill is acceptable only in cases where a person has no mortgage or does not pay rent.
3. Identification –only necessary for the person completing the application
