Emergency Veterinary Hospital Proposed at Former KinderCare Site

Public hearing slated for Wednesday, May 16.

This week, the Canton Zoning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a proposed emergency veterinary hospital at the former KinderCare child-care center on Dowd Ave.

Shannon and Vincent Bertolino are applying to put the facility, for pet treatment in "situations of sudden illness and trauma," at 135 Dowd Ave., at the corner of Canton Springs Road, according to town records.

Under current zoning, the business needs a special exception.

As part of that, the commission will consider the circumstances of the proposed use, its consistency with the character of the neighborhood, parking, access and more.

Prior to approval, the property owner should remedy some situations that do not meet prior site-plan approval, such as grading of the rear parking area away from Canton Springs Road, according to town documents.

The KinderCare branch closed in March of 2011. Prior to KinderCare, another day-care facility operated on the property.

A public hearing on the proposed use is slated for Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.
