Canton Senior and Social Services Says Farewell to Interns

The Canton Senior and Social Services Department said farewell to two interns Monday afternoon.

Since last August, Rebecca Cavallo, a junior at University of Saint Joseph and Samantha Stewart, a Central Connecticut State University senior, have assisted in the office.

The two performed such tasks as intake for energy assistance, SNAP benefits, insurance, assisting with Canton Food Bank programs, home visits to the homebound, coordinating educational and interactive presentations for the Senior Center and more.

They also started a support group for people who are living with limited or no vision, planned parties and get togethers and set up transportation for those who had doctor appointments.

"Both Interns have completed two semesters here with the department and have been an absolute asset to this office and to our programs and services," Cote wrote in an invitation for a potluck lunch in their honor Monday.

Both said they enjoyed the variety of work and the getting to know the community. The young women said it was impressive the way people pitch in after a life-changing event, such as in helping a couple who lost their home to fire.

"The Canton community is very united," Cavallo said.
