Canton Senior and Social Services Partners With Another Local Business

Canton Mobil latest to offer gas vouchers

Submitted release

Canton Senior & Social Services has announced a newly formed relationship between the department and Canton Mobil.

Canton Senior & Social Services works with Canton residents of all ages to assist with applications for state and federal assistance programs; provide counseling, mediation and advocacy; provides intake services for Canton Food Bank and Canton Fuel Bank; works with local non-profit organizations and businesses in providing services and programs that enhance and make better the lives of all people in Canton.

One assistance program that benefits low income Canton residents is a voucher program, where Canton residents in need are given vouchers for food shopping or to put gas in their cars so they can get to work.  Last year, Canton Senior & Social Services helped approximately 99 Canton households with assistance for food and gas through vouchers.

Joe Eisenberg, owner of Canton Mobil, became aware of this program after a Canton resident who had a gas voucher to be used at another gas station accidentally walked into his station.  Joe provided the necessary gas to the woman and inquired about the voucher prior to reaching out to Senior & Social Services.  Joe enjoys giving back to the community and has offered to even provide gas to residents in need who have the vouchers at a discounted rate of 5 cents off each gallon.

“I am truly excited to partner with Canton Mobil in an effort to best serve our clients.  We have had outstanding relationships with businesses that accept our vouchers and don’t mind working with the town,” said Claire Cote, Director of Senior & Social Services for the town of Canton.  “Having the ability to work with a gas station that is close in proximity and will provide this discount is going to be beneficial for clients as well who are in desperate need of gas”

Senior & Social Services already has relationships with Scott’s Mobil of Avon, Shoprite of Canton, and Marandino’s of New Hartford.  If you have a business that would like to get involved in helping Canton residents in need, please feel free to contact Claire at (860) 693-5811.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

It makes me chuckle when someone spends weeks mudslinging, finger pointing, and pot shotting untilRead More the targets of their harassments speak up and then they decide the game is over, well sorry, I have only just begun. I was sickened by the behavior of certain people at the town meeting scheduled to discuss this garage project. Most of them where given a script to read using lies and incorrect numbers to attack members of town boards and commission. They attacked the intelligence, ethics, and integrity of members of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Permanent Municipal Building Committee and project consultants. You have even managed to involve our neighbors from Barkhamsted in your May 15 Patch submission, referring to them as “Hairshirt wearing radicals who don’t wash their cars”, again full of incorrect numbers and misinformation. I am attending a Board of Ethics Meeting tonight to defend myself from mud slung on me by those finger pointers trying to distract from the facts at hand. These very same people told this town that they wanted a football field and they wanted a pool. They said that the folks in Canton deserved these things. They understood that these things came with a price tag and they were ready to pay it. Funny how the song has changed now that we have changed our focus to a much less glamorous project. Perhaps if we were proposing a hockey rink or an equestrian team $5.4 million wouldn’t be so much.

Well said! The spending proposed for this garage is outrageous!
