Canton Mourns Death of Former Town Engineer 'Ken' Wassall

Town employees expressed their sorrow this week after the unexpected death of former town engineer Robert Kenneth Wassall over the weekend.

Wassall, better known as Ken, retired from the town of Canton in 2010 after more than 20 years of service, said town clerk Linda Smith.

"He was a sweet man with a gentle soul who started every day with a smile and cheerful greeting," Smith wrote to her fellow employees.

Harriet Boyko, administrative assistant for the town building department and fire marshal, said Wassall was highly professional — both as a town employee and most currently in his role with the Connecticut Water Company.

"He was thorough, efficient and a pleasure to deal with," she said. "It's shocking and he will be missed."

Wassall also worked for the towns of Avon and Windsor and was a 25-year member of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.

A memorial service will be held at Vincent Funeral Home. See more details on their web site
