Board of Finance to Host Budget Hearing, Workshop This Week

Public input encouraged for April 3 hearing.

It will be a busy budget week as the Board of Finance will hear from the public and take a detailed look at the numbers for proposed 2012-2013 spending plans.

The board will host a public hearing at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, on the 2012-2013 Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance proposed budgets.

The school board has proposed a $23,515,402 budget, a 3.967 percent increase over the 2011-2012 approved budget of $22,618,067. Details can be found on the school’s web site

Selectmen are asking for $9,487,222, a 2.88 percent increase over the approved 2011-2012 selectmen’s budget of $9,221,562. More details can be found in our previous story or at the town’s web site

Later in the week on Thursday, April 5, the finance board will hold a budget workshop to go over the plans in detail and discuss revenue and other aspects of the budget, such as debt service. The board is expected to set a budget to send to taxpayers and project a tax rate.

That plan will be sent to taxpayers to be adopted (or voted down) at the Monday, May 14 budget meeting or later at a referendum, if any resident(s) successfully petition for one.
