Woman Rescued From Farmington River

Crews navigate access road into Nepaug State Forest

Rescue crews pulled a 63-year-old woman, who had been stuck in a  tube, out of the Farmington River Friday afternoon.

The Town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, Police Department, a UConn medic and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officers responded to the scene for the woman, who was complaining of shortness of breath and other medical issues after being stuck in a tube for some time in the river, police said.

A fire department utility vehicle and police department SUV were among the vehicles used to navigate the bumpy, gulley-ridden access road into Nepaug State Forest — at the end of Ramp Road, officials said.

Once crews pulled her out of the river and up a steep bank, the woman was transferred to an ambulance waiting by the town's transfer station. Other emergency crews stood by on Ramp Road as well.

An exact condition of the woman was unknown, but police said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
