Two Sent to Hospital After Car Veers over Bank off Torrington Avenue

Car lands near Farmington River.

Two people were sent to area hospitals Sunday night after a car they were in veered off Torrington Avenue, went through the post and cable guardrail and slid some 15 feet down the embankment, landing near the Farmington River.

The accident, which occurred near Bridge Street, happened at approximately 7 p.m. The cre was traveling west on Torrington Avenue, police said.

The two occupants were transported to area hospitals, one with a head injury, according to town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department officials.

"Injuries are believed to be non life-threatening at this time," a police department releases states.

Approximately 20 firefighters and EMTs from the volunteer fire department responded to the scene and fire police shut down Torrington Avenue.

Firefighters responded to a similar scene just weeks ago. In the early morning hours of Oct. 21, one person was rescued from a vehicle that went over the embankment on Torrington Avenue, close to the same spot.

Police are investigating both accidents.
