Incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.

A wire and pole fire on Route 179, possibly caused by a transfer problem, briefly knocked out power in portions of town, according to emergency officials and eyewitness reports. The incident took place near Route 44 shortly after 7 p.m.

Lights flickered in Canton as well as portions of Simsbury, Farmington and Avon, many residents reported on facebook. Patch reporter John Fitts was at Cherry Brook Primary School at the time, where lights flickered several times.

Power soon came back in most places and at 7:48 p.m., Connecticut Light and Power estimated that 153, or three percent of its 4,939 Canton customers, were without power. By 8:20, however, there were no reported outages in town, although the traffic signals at the were blinking.
