Town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department Honored for Ambulance

The town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department was recently honored with 'Best Appearing Ambulance' at the 2013 Connecticut State Firefighters Association Convention in South Windsor.

The Department's Assistant Chief of EMS John Bunnel said, "This win could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of Canton volunteer firefighters and EMTs who spent hours qualifying, waxing, buffing and preparing the rig for its close up."

Bunnel said Barry Wolmetz spent an entire Saturday afternoon buffing and waxing the ambulance. Steven Goeben, John Gotaski and Tom Gotaski for helping prepare the vehicle and brought it to the the convention.
In addition, John Malentacchi and Jim Juhl brought the ambulance to other parades so we could qualify for the convention.

The town took delivery of the Braun Ambulance at the end of January. In addition to life-saving equipment and numerous supplies it is equipped with the Stryker Power Load system which allows personnel to lift up to 700 lb patients into the ambulance without risking our backs. The system cost $23,000 and was funded entirely with donations.

In addition to the trophy photo, we have included several close-ups on the ambulance. Please note that those were taken prior to the competition.
