Special Olympics Torch Run Comes Through Area

Police, athletes, advocates run for organization in advance of games this weekend.

Area police departments, along with athletes and community organzations, carried the torch today as part of a run, which will culminate in the Special Olympics Connecticut’s 2012 Summer Games this weekend. 

More than 1,500 law enforcement officers from 100 communities will travel with the torch 530 miles over 3 days.

The games take place Friday, June 8, Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10.   Locations of sports venues and schedules include:

Opening Ceremonies

Location: Southern Connecticut State University, Jess Dow Field (501 Crescent Street, New Haven)

Cycling

Southern Connecticut State University

  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Aquatics

  • Saturday: 9:20 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.                       

Athletics

  • Friday: 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
