Search For Cyclist Reveals Nothing

Officials search along 179 after report of cyclist possibly going over guardrail.

Members of the Town of Canton Fire and EMS Department, Police Department and others came up empty handed Thursday afternoon after searching for a bicyclist that potentially fell over the guard rail along Route 179, officials said.

A motorist was traveling south on the road when she saw a bicyclist "wobbling" a little near the guard rail on the road in the vicinity of Simonds Avenue, Police Chief Christopher Arciero said.

The motorist lost sight of the cyclist but became concerned he may have fallen over the guardrail when he did not come up the road and was no longer in sight.

The Town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department coordinated the effort and firefighters, police officers, kayakers and others searched the area quite extensively to no avail, Arciero said.

Emergency crews also did not find evidence of trampled brush or other indications of a person on a bicycle falling over the rail and onto the steep, heavily wooded bank.
