Update: Motorcyclist Hospitalized with Severe Injuries After Route 177 Crash

A sedan and motorcycle collided near the entrance to West Woods Golf Course on Plainville Avenue in Farmington Monday afternoon.

Update, 8:53 p.m., Oct. 21

Route 177 reopened late afternoon after it closed for several hours so police could investigate a crash involving a sedan and motorcycle near West Woods Golf Course. 

Police and firefighters treated the motorcyclist, who was flung from his motorcycle in the accident, at the scene after discovering he had serious injuries to his left leg upon arrival. 

An ambulance took the motorcyclist to Hartford Hospital for further treatment. Farmington police Lt. Colin Ryan said that Life Star wasn't available when police called for a helicopter. 

The driver of the sedan had minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the accident scene. 

Police aren't releasing the names of either driver at this time.

North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad is still investigating the crash.

Department of Transportation workers also responded to set up detours for drivers on the state road.

A motorcycle driver was hospitalized with serious leg injuries after he and a sedan collided near the West Woods Golf Course in Farmington Monday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash on Route 177 (Plainville Avenue) at 12:24 p.m.

The driver of the tan sedan refused medical treatment, police said.

Preliminary investigation at the scene indicated that the crash happened when the motorcyclist was heading southbound on Route 177 and the driver of the sedan was attempting to take a lefthand turn into the golf course, police said. 

Police have not released the names of either driver at this point as they notify family. 

The road remains closed between Route 6 and Morea Road as the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad investigates. 

Police have not released information on the cause of the accident at this time.

Police confirmed that Route 177 will be closed for several hours due to a motor vehicle accident. 

The road will be closed between Route 6 and Morea Road for several hours, police said. 

The town sent a notice to residents subscribed to its alert system advising motorists to take an alternate route while police investigate a serious accident this afternoon. Detours will be provided, but there could be a traffic back-up in those areas.
