Medical Examiner: Rachel Greene's Death Ruled an Accidental Drowning

Body Found in Farmington River Saturday morning after incident a week earlier.

Rachel Greene, the 33-year-old woman found in the Farmington River Saturday after she was missing for a week, died of accidental drowning, according to the office of the state's Chief Medical Examiner.

On the Search/Memorial page set up in Rachel's honor, Larry Greene on Tuesday posted:

"There are no words for this.

I would like to thank all who have been supporting our family, and my sister's close friends during this tough time. We hold you all close to our hearts.

The money raised by this fund will be donated to Search and rescue organizations, as well has helping to offset the cost of memorial expenses.

Early Saturday morning, Greene's body was found in the Farmington River under Town Bridge. The New Hartford woman had been missing since the early morning hours of June 15.

Participants told the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection that she had been in raft with another male when it hit a rock and capsized. The male and two other males in a second raft made it out safely. The parties entered the river in New Hartford at approximately 2:30 a.m. that day.

Firefighters from New Hartford, DEEP, the Coast Guard and numerous others helped in the search for Greene. The town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department helped at several points as well.
