Police Say Home Invasion Under Investigation Was Likely First in Avon History

No arrests have been made at this time.

There were 15 burglaries last year in Avon, some in homes, while property owners or tenants were away.

But when two masked individuals forced entry into an Avon home on Jackson Street last week and demanded money at gunpoint, that was likely a first for the town, according to Avon Police Lt. Kelly Walsh.

“I don’t think we ever had a full home invasion," Walsh said.

Police have made not arrests, but are working on some leads.

“We’re still actively investigating it," Walsh said.

While a home invasion is unpredictable, Walsh said that one preventative measure residents can generally take is keeping the doors to their homes locked.

“It is an isolated incident," Walsh said. "It looks like the home may have been targeted.”

A mother was home Dec. 18 with her adult daughter and daughter's friend when the incident happened before 8 p.m.

Two masked men dressed in black made off with two purses after ordering the three occupants to the ground at gunpoint and demanding money. No one was injured, but one of the residents of the home had a minor asthma attack, police said.

One of the stolen purses contained $150, an iPhone 4 and prescription medication. The perpetrators also took a Coach purse belonging to a guest at the home, the contents of which included a Wells Fargo credit or debit card, iPhone, the visitor's keys, a driver's license, $20 in change and bills, a marijuana smoking pipe and makeup.

The two-story, single-family Jackson Street home is tucked away in a wooded neighborhood off of some dirt driveways.

A State Police K9 unit tracked the men as far as the intersection of Richard and Stevens Streets that night before losing the trail.

Further information will be provided when it becomes available.

I don't understand what the police mean by an isolated incident. If they mean there were none with the same characteristics before or after this incident in Avon, then say that.

They basically mean the home was likely targeted. When they release more information, I'll will make sure to keep you all updated. Jessie

Can you explain what is meant by "the home was targeted"? Of course the home was targeted because the intruders targeted the home they broke into. Why was this home targeted? Does this mean the intruders knew the home owners? Any more updates on this incident?

Meaning it wasn't random. Usually isolated incident means they knew the victims, but further details haven't been released at this time.
