[Update] Police Recover Stolen Safe

Crown and Hammer Broken Into Over Weekend; Similar incidents in Avon and Farmington reported.

Police are moving forward with the investigation of a safe stolen from the Crown and Hammer over the weekend, police chief Christopher Arciero said Friday.

Canton Police, with cooperation from officers in Shelton, had identified a person of interest in the case, police said Thursday.

Friday morning, Arciero said the person admitted taking the safe.

"We did obtain a confession," Arciero said. "Most likely we will be seeking an arrest warrant for him."

Monday morning, a window and glass door were found broken at the Crown and Hammer and the safe missing, police said.

Information discovered at the scene led to a person of interest from Shelton and police there assisted a Canton officer, Arciero said.

Police recovered the safe and some money but further details were not immediately released.

Similar incidents were reported at locations in Avon and Farmington and police are investigating whether they are related.

"We're moving forward with the investigation," Arciero said.
