Canton Police Investigating Untimely Death

Man found unresponsive and police believe he had been submerged in private pool.

Canton police are investigating the cause of death for a man found unresponsive at a Lawton Road home this week. Police believe he may have been in the home's pool prior to the call and foul play is not suspected.

Police officers, EMTs from the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department and University of Connecticut paramedics responded to a Lawton Road home on the evening of July 31 for reports of an unresponsive male, according to a police Department press release.

Life-saving measures were initiated to no avail, police added. Paramedics and a supervising physician presumed the victim dead at the scene.

Police believe the man may have been submerged in the home's in-ground pool before they arrived, according to a department press release.

The office of the state's chief medical examiner is conducting an autopsy and police said they are not releasing a name pending those results.

The department is investigating the incident but Capt. Lawrence Terra said they do not suspect foul play.

"It doesn't appear to be suspicious in nature," he said.
