Hiker in Distress Rescued by Canton Volunteer Fire/EMS

Man hurt his leg in fall near the base of Nepaug Dam over Columbus Day Weekend.

A man who said he was climbing along the rocks near the Nepaug Dam before hurting his leg was rescued Saturday by members of the Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department.

The hiker indicated he was climbing along the rocks at the dam before being injured, then jumped to the base of the dam, where he was found. His leg was splinted by EMS members and he was transported to UConn Health Center. No name was released.

In addition to the 18 Canton fire and EMS volunteers who responded, UConn’s Rescue 2 and Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company provided mutual aid.
