Emergency Crews Respond to Fuel Leak

Diesel fuel quickly contained by nearby shop owner.

Emergency crews responded to the Land Rover plaza Thursday afternoon after some 50 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from a truck hauling luxury vehicles.

It was early afternoon when police officers, members of the the town of Canton Vounteer Fire and EMS Department and fire marshal Adam Libros responded to the rear section of the plaza at 95 Albany Turnpike.

Fire officials said the truck had driven over a bump in the parking lot, which knocked loose one of its fuel lines. A nearby shop owner quickly responded with absorbent pads, a storm drain barrier and a drying agent, officials said.

Around 1:30 p.m. Libros said the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was responding to the scene. The trucking company had also called a clean-up company and will be responsible for the cost, Libros added.

It was not immediately clear why the truck was in the lot and its driver also declined comment.
