East Hill Road House Fire Started in Kitchen

Officials believe electrical problem is to blame.

A fire at 43 East Hill Road last week originated in the kitchen, Fire Marshal Adam B. Libros said. 

"The area of origin of the fire was in the kitchen, more specifically near the oven/range,” Libros said.  "The cause of the fire was most likely accidental due to an electrical problem either with the oven/range wiring or its receptacle wiring.  Fortunately, no one was injured." 

Libros said he worked with the Travelers Insurance’s Fire Investigation Team to make the determination.  Travelers provided an electrical engineer, who acted as an expert to determine the most likely cause, Libros said.

The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Feb. 8.

The family has not been able to stay at the home and their belongings were ruined. Many in the community have pitched in to help and the town’s Social Services Department is .

The Town of Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS Department responded with Ladder 2, Engines 1, 3, & 4, Rescue 9, Squad 5 & Canton’s ambulance.   

The Tanker and Pumper Task Forces were activated to provide back up water sources and personnel. In addition to Canton, Task Force members include fire departments from Avon, Simsbury, Burlington, Farmington and Granby.
