Police have charged a 59-year-old Canton man in connection with a one-car rollover that closed the upper portion of Cherry Brook Road (Route 179) overnight earlier this week.
Paul B. Johnson, of Case Street, was charged with evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane and operation of a motor vehicle while using a mobile electronic device. The charges stem from a one-car rollover on Route 179 near Case at approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, police said.
Johnson allegedly left the scene and a Connecticut State Police Canine Unit was called in to assist in the search.
Johnson was later found at home and transported to Hartford Hospital for medical treatment, police said.
A utility pole was knocked down during the crash and a portion of the road was closed well into the next day as Connecticut Light and Power crews came to fix it. The work was also delayed while officials searched for Johnson.
The accident took numerous resources, including firefighters, an ambulance crew and fire police from the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, local police officers, a state canine unit, a tow truck operator and Connecticut Light and Power crews.
Johnson was released on a written promise to appear in court on Jan. 29.
Johnson could not be immediately reached for comment.
