'Cop on Top' to Benefit CT Special Olympics

On Saturday, Aug. 24 from 1 to 9 p.m. The Shoppes at Farmington Valley will be hosting “Cop on Top,” where the officers from Canton and Avon Police Departments will be working from a slightly higher altitude than usual in an effort to raise funds to support CT Special Olympics.

An officer from each department will be situated in a raised bucket truck only to be lowered if donation goals are reached for each town. The goal for the entire event is for each town to raise $2,500 for a total of $5,000. There will also be a silent auction for a ride to school in a police cruiser or a fire truck for both Canton Intermediate School and Cherry Brook Elementary.

ShopRite will be providing hot dogs, chips and soda for a donation, with all proceeds donated to the CT Special Olympics, the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Truck will be onsite passing out free ice cream from 6 to 8 p.m., and BreMar Rental has donated a bounce house for the kids to enjoy! Be sure to stick around for our last outdoor summer movie night of the year starting at sundown with preshow entertainment from 6 to 8 pm.

Flatbread Company will be hosting a benefit night to support of the CT Special Olympics on August 21 from 5 to 9 p.m.

For each pizza sold, a portion of the proceeds will be donated.

“We encourage everyone to come out and join in the fun to help us meet our goal of $5,000 for the CT Special Olympics,” said Dave Rodriguez, Officer for the Canton Police Department and lead organizer of the event.
