Jennifer Gero, owner of Rootz hair salon in Collinsville, and her son had to stay at a neighbor's house Monday night after a large pine tree crashed through the side of their Avon home during Hurricane Sandy.
There were no injuries, according to Avon Fire Chief Michael Trick.
"That house got some severe damage," Trick said.
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to make sure the two occupants of the house were safe and to turn off the power on the structure as a precaution.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, the tree had been removed from the house and a tarp was covering the corner where it crashed through.
Gero met with a representative from Traveler's Insurance Tuesday afternoon to assess the damage.
