The cause of the fire March 2, 2012 fire at 22-24 South St will "remain undetermined," according to a press release from fire marshal Adam B. Libros.
While investigators have a theory about the cause, they were unable to prove it, Libros said.
The fire did likely start on second-floor exterior deck in the rear of the house, the release stated. Damage estimates to the structure and contents are approximately $400,000, Libros said.
The fire started at approximately 10 a.m. on March 2. After members of the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department initially responded, a regional task force was called in to help control the fire and provide back-up coverage for the town.
The second floor near the deck and the attic sustained the most fire, heat and smoke damage but there was some first-floor water damage, fire officials said.
