Chief praises citizen involvement and police investigative efforts.

Canton police, alerted to suspicious activity by a resident of an East Hill Road condominium complex, arrested a man who is suspected in several burglaries in Canton and Farmington.

On Thursday, Canton Police Officers Joseph Capaldo and Mark Selander responded to a report of an individual on the roof of a large housing complex on East Hill Road, according to a department release.

Police said the suspect, identified as Anthony Buccheri, 27, was on the roof wearing gloves, carrying a crowbar, and checking windows of the housing units. He was charged with burglary, attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Arrest warrants are expected to be filed in the related Canton and Farmington cases. Buccheri’s probation officer was also contacted regarding his probation status.

The investigation is continuing and other area towns have been notified regarding open burglary investigations.

Police Chief Christopher Arciero praised the citizen’s observation and timely report to police. The quick response and initial investigative efforts from Officers Capaldo and Selander led to Buccheri’s arrest, Arciero said. He also praised the follow-up investigation actions and interviews by Canton Police Detective Kevin Wilkinson, Officer John Colangelo, and Farmington Detective Brian Killiany.

“The collective efforts of the citizen who made the initial observations, the quick response by the officers and subsequent detailed investigation resulted in the potential solving of numerous open burglary cases in Canton and other towns,” Arciero said.

Buccheri was initially held on a $10,000 cash bond and was presented at Hartford Superior Court on Friday. No plea was entered and the case was continued to April 21. He remained in custody, with bail set by the court at $75,000.

Public defender Megan Weiss represented Buccheri at his appearance Friday, but said she could not comment because the case was pending.
