Then at approximately 6:30 p.m., a vehicle rolled over in the "s curves" on Route 309 in Canton, Goeben said. The operator of the vehicle was transported to the hospital. Initial reports indicated the injury was not life threatening.

Then shortly after 7 p.m., the department and police officers were called to Canton Intermediate School for a strong odor. Some police and fire personnel were still at or had just returned from the Route 309 incident. The problem at the school turned out to be an overcharged data systems battery in the basement, deputy fire marshal Scott Goeben said.
