The Union Street Tavern Trot Committee is pleased to announce that this year’s 7th Annual Tavern Trot raised over $25,000- contributing to a grand total of over $100,000 for pediatric cancer research. Over 600 runners participated in the Trot, a 3.5 mile road and trail race through the historic Windsor Centre.
“This $100,000 is enough to pay for a year of a research project,” said Jason “Jay” Scott, the father of little Alexandra “Alex” Scott who started Alex’s Lemonade Stand outside her Connecticut home to help other children fighting the disease before she lost her own battle to neuroblastoma in 2004 at age 8. Jay and his father (Alex’s grandfather), Pat Scott, participated in the race just two months after receiving a lung transplant.
For the third year, sportscaster Joe D’Ambrosio served as master of ceremonies for the event, which kicked off at 12:30 PM, after a performance of the national anthem by Millennium Magic, a division of the Sweet Adeline’s.

The event also featured live entertainment from The Guitar Guys, free refreshments, and food and beer for runners and walkers of the Trot. Bear’s Smoke House, Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers, Bill Selig Ford, and the Windsor Lions were also in attendance as sponsors and vendors at the Trot.
The overall first place male winner was Gregory Weaver, age 33 from West Hartford, with a time of 19:32. The overall first place female winner was Lauren Ross, age 22 from West Hartford, with a time of 23:18.

In the category of females under 13, 12-year-old Julia Bishop of Windsor came in first place with a time of 26:29. For males under 13, 11-year-old Harrison Sawka of Windsor came in first place with a time of 29:30.
In the category of females aged 14-19, 15-year-old Sydnie Bedard of Enfield came in first place with a time of 25:39. For males aged 14-19, 16-year-old Aaron Rubin of West Simsbury came in first placed with a time of 21:18.
In the category of females aged 20-29, 26-year-old Becca Thomson of Windsor came in first place with a time of 25:19. For males aged 20-29, 29-year-old Dave Merkt of Manchester came in first place with a time of 19:59.
In the category of females aged 30-39, 35-year-old Nichile Donzella of Windsor came in first place with a time of 24:03. For males aged 30-39, 30-year-old Kyle Morse of Waterbury came in first place with a time of 19:47.
In the category of females aged 40-49, 45-year-old Kathleen Shaw of East Hartland came in first place with a time of 24:32. For males aged 40-49, 48-year-old Billy Barone of Oakville came in first place with a time of 20:33.
In the category of females aged 50-59, 55-year-old Catherine Lyons of Bloomfield came in first place with a time of 24:40. For males aged 50-59, Michael Cobbs of West Hartford came in first place with a time of 21:18.
In the category of females aged 60-69, 61-year-old Cynthia Lafave of Manchester came in first place with a time of 28:53. For males aged 60-69, 60-year-old Steven Morse of Broadbrook came in first place with a time of 23:52.
Lastly, in the category of females aged 70 and over, 70-year-old Chris Rua of Glastonbury came in first place with a time of 49:19. For males aged 70 and over, 73-year-old Vic Laport of Clarksburg, MA, came in first place with a time of 30:36.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 275 research projects nationally.
