"Lose It" App is Great For Everyone

Lately I have been talking about and recommending the free app "Lose It" to all of my friends and clients.  This app can be downloaded free for your computer or smartphone, and is meant to be used as a weight loss tool.  You enter your starting weight and the amount you'd like to lose.  The app then tells you how many calories a day you should take in in order to reach your goal by a certain time.  When you use this app, however, it is a very educational health experience whether or not you actually need to lose weight.  Each day you enter the foods you eat, and the app calculates how many calories you have consumed.  It also takes into account exercise you have done, giving you extra credit calories for your workout.

I have been noticing that this process is  no different than learning to budget money.  Once you know where you tend to spend calories in your day, you begin to learn where you could potentially substitute healthier and lower calorie options in order to be able to regularly make your daily calorie goal.  There are lots of classes out there related to budgeting, money management and balancing the checkbook, but you'd be surprised at how many people never even check the serving size on foods they eat all the time.  When you enter all the food you eat into this app (and you can even use your phone to just scan the bar code if it's a packaged food) you really start to notice what a serving is, and how much you really have to exercise to earn that bowl of ice cream.  Also, looking at a list of what you have eaten for the day is a simple way to determine if your diet is lacking in vegetables, too heavy in meat, or carbs, or what have you.  I am happy to help clients learn to use this app in conjunction with other health and weight loss treatments that I provide, because the more the client learns and understands about their own food budgeting, the more successful an outcome they will have.  For questions or consultations, contact nikki@nikkisnature.com anytime.  Have a healthy day!
