Democrat Mary Dean is running for the Canton Board of Assessment Appeals
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Political Science from the University of Vermont
I am currently employed as a Special Education Para-Educator at Canton Intermediate School. Prior to this I worked in non-profit management.
Why are you seeking office?
I have served as a volunteer to many organizations in Canton since moving here in 2002. My interest and dedication to serving have been lifelong. To me, it is the next logical step to serve in a public office. I believe in democracy and being an active participant is crucial to a successful democracy. The Board of Assessment Appeals offers citizens a voice and I will serve as an active and thoughtful listener. Our homes are typically our greatest financial investment and it is important that homeowners have an avenue to pursue if there is ever a question.
What experience do you bring to the table?
Having served as the treasurer for the Canton Food Bank for a number of years, I am very aware of the financial challenges facing residents of Canton. I am also a Justice of the Peace in Canton which is a position I am honored to serve. I believe that my role as Justice of the Peace is meaningful as I am allowed to serve people in the most important moments of their lives.
What is the town's Most Pressing Issue?
I feel that the most pressing issue facing Canton is to create and maintain a sustainable tax base which would lessen the tax burden on homeowners.
What do you love most about Canton?
What I love most about Canton are the people. I have lived in many places and the sense of community in this town is unrivaled.
What do you do for fun?
All of my free time is spent with my husband and 2 sons. We enjoy spending time outdoors and I love to cook & bake for them!
How can residents keep up with you?
