Why are you seeking office?

Service on the Board of Assessment Appeals is a small way of giving back to Canton. In my veterinary work I care for animals and the families that own and love them. Helping others with hardship is an essential part of my work and not at all unlike trying to help those with concerns about their property taxes.

I also believe it is essential to good citizenship to participate fully in the community in which I live and work, particularly in service to the community. In the past I was able to devote my time to the Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, Sam Collins Day Committee and Rotary Club. The Board of Assessment Appeals is a similar form of community service.

What experience do you bring to the table?

I am a property owner and businessperson, and live and work in the community. I recognize the burden that property taxes place on residents, especially those on fixed incomes or who may be retired or disabled. When property tax appeals are made, there is usually a good reason for them. Having already completed the term of a previous Board member, I am experienced in evaluating such claims and sympathetic to those in need.

What do you feel is the town's most pressing issue?

The dual and related concerns of the property tax rate and the need to maintain our infrastructure, especially our roads and town buildings.

What do you love most about town?

It’s the people. It’s also the semi-rural and small town nature of our neighborhoods, closely adjacent to a thriving small business community. Most of our small businesses are owned by town residents and I have found these business people to be the most caring, thoughtful people I have known.  Canton is a great place to make a life.

What do you like to do for fun?

Spending time with my family is number one, including my animals. Landscaping.  I fly a small plane with local pilot friends, Phil Worley in particular.

How can residents keep up with you?
