Town Takes Second Try at Skating Rink

Parks and Recreation Director hopes for longer stretches of cold weather.

For the second year, the town of Canton has started installing a temporary skating rink at Mills Pond.

This week, parks personnel constructed the frame on one of the town tennis courts but still need to install a liner and fill the roughly 60- by 80-foot area with water.

Parks and Recreation Director Brian Wilson said he did not have an exact time frame for installation. He did say he hopes for longer cold stretches than last winter. The town erected the rink in January of 2012 but temperatures never stayed cold long enough for the water to completely freeze.

“Let’s hope we can at least lace our skates up this year," Wilson said.
