Ski Sundown Opens With a Little Fun, Plenty of Snow

Seven trails open.

Ski Sundown, located in New Hartford, opened Wednesday, Dec. 26 for the season at 8 a.m. with top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding until 10 p.m.

Opening day festivities included “I Was First” awards with prize bags awarded to the first customers who crossed the bridge into the base area, the first people in line at the lifts, the first rental customer, and the first customer in the snowsports shop.

Sundown officially has the most open terrain in Connecticut with more trails opening as the week progresses.  Currently, seven trails are open:

 Canyon Run (Blue)

  • Nor Easter (Blue)
  • Temptor (Black)
  • Stinger (Black) with Terrain Park
  • Exhibition (Blue)
  • Little Joe (Green)
  • Sensation (Green)

All lifts are running, minimizing lift lines.  Wednesday night, more than six inches of snow was expected which will add to our base depth of 12 to 20 inches.  Sundown will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with night skiing and riding, and will be open until Midnight on New Year’s Eve.
