Readying For Sam Collins Day

Big event takes place this weekend.

Sam Collins Day committee members, vendors and suppliers spent Friday morning readying for the big event, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 17.

Committee chairwoman Mary Tomolonius said the event will offer great food, plenty of fun, and a chance to visit with merchants and community groups — all on a beautiful day.

"We're looking forward to seeing everybody, visiting with neighbors and having a great old time," Tomolonius said.

Committee member Mark Quattro has been there from the beginning and said within a few years the event was very popular. In fact, it got so big it had to be scaled back, he said.

"It's been very successful," he said. "We were going to stop after 15 years but everybody's come to rely on this."

The event features local merchants, community organizations, a food court, town departments, crafters, live music, children's activities, and much more.

The main event site is on the Canton Volunteer Fire Co. field on Canton Springs Road. In addition, activities will take place in downtown Collinsville. A shuttle bus will travel between sites.

The event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce with support from the town, the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton and the Canton Lions Club.

The day kicks off with a Lions Club breakfast at the fire station from 7 to 10 a.m., with the main event taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
