The New England/Northeast Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet is being held at the Community Center this weekend.
The ninth annual event is being held June 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and includes displays by railroading enthusiasts, many of whom customize model locomotives, cars and scenery to realistically portray current and historical railroad layouts.
“What people are showing is their interests - what they like to model,” said Fran Richard of West Hartford, one of the event organizers.
The event also includes numerous workshops. On Sunday, participants will tour some railroading layouts in area homes. Those who attend the meet can pick up a packet with the details.
The show does not include full layouts and mostly caters to advanced modelers, but organizers said members of the public who want to stop by for a quick look are welcome. Those who want to participate will have to pay the $30 admission fee, which helps cover the costs of the event.
