Police, Social Services to Host Sessions on Emergency Notification System

Submitted release

The SALT Committee would like to announce a collaborative effort between the Canton Police Department and Canton Senior and Social Services office to offer a registration event for any member of the Canton community to sign up for the CT Alert ENS (Emergency Notification System).

The ENS uses the state’s Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) database for location-based notifications to the public for life-threatening emergencies. The new CT Alert ENS allows citizens to add other means of communication, in addition to a current home phone “land line”.

This collaboration is targeted to help older adults in Canton become part of the CT Alert system in order to keep them informed during any emergency situation such as recent storms. Many were unaware of the location of shelters throughout the community. As members of Canton working together as a community, the goal of this three day event is to help those who are not yet registered for CT Alert.

This preventative measure will help Canton residents be well-informed and stay safe during life-threatening events such as the 2011 winter storm. TRIAD serves as a collaborative partnership between members of law enforcement, senior organizations and senior citizens. The three partners share an equal and important relationship with one another. TRIAD activities attempt to prevent crime, implement education programs and provide assistance to older adult victims of crimes.

The SALT Committee oversees all TRIAD programs and services and meets at the Community Center the first Monday of every month. To make an appointment call the Senior and Social Services office at (860) 693-5811 where you will be set up with a one-on-one meeting with CCSU intern, Ariana Fleming from Canton Police Department.

The entire process will take no longer than 10 minutes. This is a community effort, so please join us and sign up for either April 22, 24 or 26 between 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Canton Community Center, located at 40 Dyer Avenue. There will also be a TRIAD-sponsored Wellness, Safety, & Health Fair and this service will be available on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those who are unable to sign up for this particular registration event.
