‘Missing’ Person Found in Winsted

Volunteer fire department receives report of missing tuber Monday night.

Emergency crews spent about a half hour looking for a "missing person" along the Farmington River Monday night. 

Police said members of the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department were conducting a drill on Memorial Field on Canton Springs Road when someone approached them and said he had not seen his friend since they had exited the Farmington River at the tubing take-out along Route 44 about an hour and a half earlier. 

Firefighters and others spent about a half hour looking for the male, officials said. Police officers also responded.

A state trooper in Winsted, however, later found the man, police said. The "missing" man was reportedly walking to Norfolk, police added. 

Fire officials said the department had several vehicles, firefighters and medics on scene, utilized numerous members of its tactical and rescue teams, were about to use an All Terrain Vehicle and considered calling for mutual aid when the person was found.
