Resident Urges People to Help Northern Neighbors

Vermont continues to pick up the pieces after Irene.

When Irene hit the east coast, Collinsville resident Kristen Stevens saw many news reports that showed devastation on the Connecticut shoreline.

But what she didn't immediately realize was just how badly some areas to the north, like Vermont, were hit.

Pretty soon, however, she began seeing photos and messages on email and through Facebook from friends in Vermont, including one who lives in Wilmington.

"It just seems they were hit so much harder than anyone around here realized," Stevens said.

And in the aftermath of Irene, Stevens hopes people will remember those communities, many of which are familiar to Connecticut residents who enjoy skiing and other activities in Vermont.
