Collinsville Residents, Merchants Baffled by Large ‘Boom’ Thursday Evening

Police say nothing found in area.

Collinsville residents and merchants were baffled by what many described as an extremely loud "boom" at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

"It shook the back windows," said Julius Fialkiewicz, owner of Realty Works on Main Street.

Kristen Stevens, owner of Collinsville Framing on Center Street, concurred and said it shook her place as well.

Many who heard the sound had trouble describing it but most agreed it was louder and different than a typical transformer explosion or vehicle backfire.

"It was like when a boat falls over and hits the ground but much, much louder," said Collinsville Canoe and Kayak manager Melissa Post.
