Church Hosting Summer Cool Down Blast

Free ice cream, music part of event.

Collinsville Congregational Church will host a free Summer Cool Down Blast Sunday, Aug. 19.

The event, which takes place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., will include free ice cream and music. Performing will be Valley Brass, a quintet of members of the Farmington Valley Band. In addition, music director Jay North will lead Friends of the Bridegroom, an ensemble performing contemporary Christian music, said church pastor the Rev. James Wheeler. The group will feature blues guitarist and singer XY Eli, aka Eli Williams.

Once dubbed the ice cream social, the event has taken place for about 10 years now, Wheeler said.

"It's fun for all ages," he said. "It's become a nice little event."

There will also be free Face Painting, and a "Free Gifts for Visitors" booth with balloon decorating table, magnets, bookmarks, postcards, posters, CD's and more... all free... and everyone's invited!

Thanks Rose! Sounds like a great event. I will be out of town but I hope there’s a good crowd.
