Canton Special Town Meeting on Pool Enclosure Study set for Feb. 19

After petition, electors will decide whether to spend up to $12,500 on feasibility study.

The Canton Board of Selectmen met briefly Wednesday night and officially set Feb. 19 as the date for a special town meeting in which electors can vote whether to spend as much as $12,500 for an independent study on the feasibility of a removable structure and year-round programming at Mills Pond Pool.

Recently more than 150 resident petitioned a town meeting to spend the money, which would come from existing funds in the Mills Pond Pool Evaluation and Improvements Account, for a independent look at whether such a plan could generate enough revenue to make the pool self sustaining or profitable. It currently loses approximately $60,000 per year.

For more background on the petition see this previous Patch story. Advocates of the idea have also started a facebook page.
