Canton High School Graduate Opens Retail Store in Canaan

Nicole Schmidt Gonçalves, a 2008 Canton High School Graduate, has taken another step in her journey as 'The New England Girl' and opened a retail location for the furniture, home decor and design business. 

Gonçalves recently opened a shop at 6 East Main St. (Route 44) in Canaan, across from Stop and Shop. The store will feature pieces made by Gonçalves, who often works with found materials, a practice she refers to as 'repurposing.' It will also showcase the work of others.  

Gonçalves, who began the business in May of 2012, said the store will also feature workshops and guest speakers. 

"We are hoping to get recognized as much more than a "store," she said.

She is hosting a grand opening and open house event starting at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the store. Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
