Cake Gypsy Debuts New, Larger Space

Business is still located in Canton Village; Sugar Arts Academy coming to original location.

On Friday, Cake Gypsy opened the doors to its new location in Canton Village.

The store, which bakes and sells its own cakes, cookies, cupcakes, truffles and more opened approximately two years ago in a small location behind Walgreens.

After 8 months of preparation, Deanna Damen's store is now open in a more prominent, larger space in the Canton Village shopping center near Canton Dental Center and Dr. Charles Bonelli.

"It's just so much brighter and more welcoming in here," Tom Harrison of Avon said Friday.

In addition to seeing the new space Friday, he and his wife Lorraine had the chance to see that Damen had used their son's "life changing" quote on her wall filled with customer sayings. Peter Harrison used those words when he tasted a caramel apple cupcake.

Damen will keep her old space and convert it into a 'Sugar Arts Academy," which will offer adult and children's classes in topics such as baking and cake decorating.

While there is limited seating in the new space, Damen also plans to establish a small area in the other location where customers can relax with a coffee and treat.

Cake Gypsy now has two kitchens as well, which will be a great help in filling large custom orders, Damen said.
