Benidorm Hosts Consignment Sale This Weekend

Hundreds of Used Bikes to Choose From at Annual Event

The atmosphere at Benidorm Bikes was festive Friday afternoon as employees evaluated, accepted and tagged hundred of used bicycles for the annual consignment sale this weekend.

Now in its 14th year, the sale has become a tradition in town. Area residents are able to clean out their old bikes, pass them on to a new home and potentially make some money.

Choices include kids, street, hybrids and mountain bikes everywhere from $25 to more than $1,000.

“If they didn’t do this, then the kids couldn’t get a new bike every other year,” said Karyn Horn, of Canton, who has two kids. “It’s a great opportunity to rotate out your old bikes and get something new for the kids.”

The sale also has a charitable aspect as well. Bikes that don’t sell this year and are not picked up by May 13 will be donated to the Urban League of Greater Hartford.

Also the kids of owners Doug and Jan Tanner - Lucy, 12, Axel, 10 and Wells, 8, will host a cookout and bake sale and donate proceeds to Operation Smile.

The sale runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 8.
