Bears Make an Appearance Around Mitchell Volkswagen

Two large bears entertained workers and residents in the area of Mitchell Volkswagen and New England Patio and Hearth Saturday afternoon. 

“It was really interesting,” said Rene' Mitchell of the Mitchell Auto Group.

The bears spent most of the afternoon wandering the perimeter of the parking lots near the Volkswagen, Subaru and other business lots in Canton near the Avon town line, Mitchell said.

At one point, the bears were mating, witnesses said. 

Police responded and the Department of Environmental Protection later came to scare them off with bean bags, officials said.

Police Chief Christopher Arciero said there have been numerous bear sightings in town but said this serves as a reminder for residents to be careful - especially when cubs are around - or may be soon.
