April 2013 Canton Library Events

Weed Walk and spring book sale among offerings.

The following programs are offered during the month of April at Canton Public Library.

Monday, April 1- Tuesday, April 30, the library will exhibit a work made of pressed copper pennies by Halina Gorecki, entitled “The United Cents of America” in the Library Showcase. No other artwork will be displayed in the main gallery area or in the Children’s room during the month of April due to wall painting throughout the library.

Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. — “Weed Walk” with Lisl Huebner, nationally board-certified herbalist. Discover our area’s edible, medicinal and decorative plants.  Free, however registration is requested. Call (860) 693-5800.

Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. — “Monday Evening Book Club will discuss The Northwest Corner: A Novel, by John Burnham Schwartz.” Copies of the book are available at the library. New members are always welcome. 

Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — “Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale,” at Canton Public Library. Nearly new and used fiction, non-fiction and children’s books will be for sale in Room F of the Canton Community Center.

Wednesday, April 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — “Painting Demonstration by Art Chouinard,” at Canton Public Library. Another in a series of monthly visits to the library and a chance to watch a master at work on his lovely marine scenes.  

Thursday, April 18 at 2 p.m. — “Movies on the Big Screen presents Rise of the Guardians.” The movie, which is recommended for children 6 and up, is free, and no registration is required. Free hot popcorn and bottled water will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. — Saturday Book Conversations reads The Cat’s Table by Michael Ondaatje.” Copies of the book are available at our circulation desk.  New members are always welcome.  

Saturday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. — “An Author Talk: Robert Steele, author of The Curse: Big-Time Gambling’s Seduction of a Small New England Town: A Novel.” Free; registration is requested. Books will be available for sale and signing. 

Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. — “Ninth Annual Crossword Puzzle Tournament at Canton Public Library” sponsored by The Friends of the Canton Public Library; free; PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED.
