4th Time Around Wants You To Dance

Local Band to hit the stage at Bridge Street Live Saturday.

The four local musicians in 4th Time Around have just one goal for this weekend – to get you out on the dance floor.

“The greatest form of flattery to me and the band is when people get up and dance,” said Rob Brainard of Canton, rhythm guitarist and vocalist with the band.

The band, which comes to Bridge Street Live Saturday, May 14 plays classic rock and popular tunes from the 1950s through the 1990s as well as some modern country music. Listeners will hear everything from the sounds of Chuck Berry to Vince Gill to songs from bands like The Eagles and Kentucky Headhunters. And while there may be a few ballads in the mix, the idea is to keep the feet on the dance floor through the slow and fast songs.

“It’s all about song choice,” Brainard said.

“If it doesn’t dance, it doesn’t play,” bassist and vocalist John Jarzbek added

The band stays pretty true to the original versions but adds a little of their own stamp to each one – especially since all members sing lead and harmony vocals.

In addition to Brainard and Jarzbek, the band consists of Keith Riendeau of Unionville on drums and vocals and Doug Morneault of Canton on lead guitar and vocals.

The band started informally when Riendeau, who also owns Carter Glass in Canton, convinced Brainard to do a little jamming at his home. Brainard had played with Morneault in previous bands, including a popular area band called Secrets in the early 1970s. It turned out Riendeau knew him as well.

They got him to play and shortly after that Morneault met Jarzbek at the Canton Transfer station and learned he played bass.

At first the guys didn’t plan to go too far with the music but soon realized they had a bond.

“We all got along very well together,” Morneault said.

They also realized the musical chemistry was good and while they had “been there, done that” with hauling heavy equipment back and forth to gigs and cars every weekend, they realized it would be fun to play out a little, especially in the Summer.

“We weren’t looking to play every weekend but we all had the same idea of wanting to play and sound good,” Morneault said.

And while the name alludes to that fact that each member is a seasoned musician, it was spontaneous thought that came from Brainard during a conversation with Riendeau. It stuck.

The band’s been together about three years now and members plan to continue building the live show during the warmer months.

They play fairly often at Mark’s Cruise Nights, which take place every Monday in the summer at Mark’s Auto on Russell Road in East Granby. In future years, they also hope to market more to the outdoor shows many towns sponsor through parks and recreation departments.

Right now, however, the band is looking forward to the Bridge Street show this Saturday.

“It’s a great place to play,” Jarzbek said.

And, more importantly it has a dance floor.

“Saturday Night for 4th Time Around we'll be setting up the dance floor,” Pat Ryan, entertainment and publicity director for Bridge Street, said. “The show promises to be a lot of fun. We’re thrilled to have more of Canton's own hit the Bridge Street Live Stage.”

Tickets to the show are $12 and $22.
