So, How About That Avon Diner?

What new businesses do you want to come to town? A diner? A coffee shop? Something else? Tell us in the comments!

When blogger and Avon resident Daniel Schwartz wrote a wish list for 2012, the first thing on it was for a diner to open in his hometown.

"A diner, you say?," he wrote in his . "Yep. a full-service, New Jersey-style diner. Just like the one in the Sopranos. You know, breakfast anytime, and an assortment of pies sitting in the counter. Maybe even gravy fries.  And booth jukeboxes would be an added bonus. We have a dozen pizza places and not one diner? This is a travesty in the making."

Needless to say, discussion ensued in the comments about others who wanted a diner.

"The diner sounds great - you should open one!" Avon Town Council Chairman Mark Zacchio wrote.

"Your Wish List is my Wish List too! Bring on the diner & more growth to local merchants!" Kipling Gottshall commented.

Do you want a diner to come to Avon? Where would one fit in town?

I just love how people want what they want without ever thinking two seconds about it. There is no way a diner would be able to support itself. The lease prices per square foot are just too expensive anywhere in Avon, let alone on Route 44. Why do you think all of these restaurants are closed or soon to be closed...PApacelli, On The Border, the 99' soon to be Colony Grille, Boston Market, Dakota, etc. Then factor in Avon's strict zoning and sign regulations. Keep wishing for that diner, but it will never happen.j

A diner is an absolute necessity in Avon. When we moved to Avon, it was what we missed the most, having lived in NJ where diners were the busiest and best places to eat. Anyone who ever lived in the metropolitan NY area will agree that a diner is a MUST. Ilene Kaplan
