Public Invited to Moms' Competition

CrossFit Legitimus looks to find the fittest mom.

Although the event was planned many months ago, moms' competition will offer another diversion from the ongoing troubles an early snowstorm brought to the area a week ago.

The "Mamas Knock You Out" Competition is set for today, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Head coach Jen Conlin said through her experience at various CrossFit locations and other places she came to realize that a lot of fitness competitions were filled by super-competitive athletes.

Many of the clients at the CrossFit locations, however, are everyday moms.

“The moms are a big part of what we do here,” she said.  “We thought it would be a good idea to offer them something.”

There will likely be serious competitors at the competition but many will be everyday moms.

“Although it will be competitive there’s a very friendly undertone to the way we’re running it,” she said.

In all approximately 70 moms were due to compete in three different heat elimination workouts. The top five athletes will then compete in a final round for a cash prize.

Conlin thinks it will be a fun event, even for the general public.

“We’re hoping to have the community involved in any way we can,” she said. “It will definitely be spectator friendly.”
